Havila Voyages sees strong demand from travellers avoiding lengthy EES queues in Southern Europe
Norwegian coastal cruise operator Havila Voyages is reporting strong demand from British travellers with UK sales for this summer up 16%, and capacity now limited on some high season dates.
The company believes that news reports citing lengthy passport queues at southern Europe airports following the introduction of the new EES system is sending last minute bookers north to Norway, where they are enjoying a much smoother arrival experience.
Bergen and Oslo airports have avoided widespread disruption thanks to their phased implementation of the new system.
“Many holidaymakers have understandably been concerned by headlines about lengthy immigration queues across Europe,” said Matthew Valentine, Global Head of Sales at Havila Voyages.
“Unlike many major European gateways affected by long passport queues this summer, the Norwegian’s phased approach has meant a smoother transition and is driving interest in travel to the country.

“While UK visitors have historically booked the coastal route in winter to see the Northern Lights, other nationalities have always preferred to enjoy the spectacular scenery under the midnight sun. It is only in recent years that British holidaymakers have realised that a summer voyage can be just as spectacular, if not more so.”
“Our growth this summer has only been limited by the capacity available. While there are a limited number of cabins still available for July and August, agents will need to book quickly in order to secure them.”
Highlights of a summer voyage include endless days under the midnight sun, sailing into Geirangerfjord with its towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls, and exploring the pristine beaches and picturesque fishing villages of the Lofoten Islands.
