East Midlands trains welcomes new Master Cutler

The naming of one of East Midlands Trains’ newly refurbished seven-carriage Meridian trains will signify a successful partnership with the city which has resulted in significant improvements to rail links to and from Sheffield, including faster journey times, extra services and fully refurbished trains.

The ceremony will also provide an opportunity to welcome Pam Liversidge OBE DL, the City’s first female Master Cutler to her year in office.  East Midlands Trains has developed a successful partnership with the Cutlers’ Company, and the naming of Meridian train222 002 will provide a great opportunity to celebrate this collaboration and recognise Sheffield’s heritage.

East Midlands Trains is currently investing £6 million to refurbish its fleet of 27 Meridian trains, which operate on services between Sheffield and London.  This refurbishment programme is delivering added passenger benefits such as luxury leather seats in First Class, new carpets and seat covers throughout as well as additional luggage space and a new space for buggies.

The naming event and speeches will take place at 10.10 prompt on platform 5 at Sheffield station and journalists are invited to join us from 10.00 in the First Class Lounge for pre-event refreshments. Following the train naming event, there will be an opportunity for additional photographs as two of East Midlands Trains’ Sheffield-based Train Managers will be handing over a cheque to The Railway Children’s Charity to donate money they have raised through the sale of special badges. This was done as part of a special train which ran in support of the charity earlier in the year.
