East Lancashire steams ahead with Halloween Ghost Train sell-out

This year’s Halloween Ghost Trains have officially gone down as the ‘best ever’ since the launch of the event in 2009, the East Lancashire Railway revealed. Over 3,000 visitors enjoyed the spook-tastic event which saw steam-hauled trains running four evening services on Saturday and Sunday as well as ghostly parades and other scary surprises at the station.
The record ticket sales follow the unprecedented interest in last year’s Halloween Ghost Trains which sold out four weeks prior to the event.

Andy Morris, East Lancashire Railway’s General Manager said:
“Despite the difficult economic backdrop, the response from the public has been fantastic. We released additional seats in the week prior to the event to meet the exceptional demand but these sold out just as quick. The success is a real boost for the one hundred odd volunteers who have spent the past few weeks preparing and decorating the station, trains and carriages to make the event an unforgettable experience for our visitors.“

This year’s Halloween extravaganza is followed by the ever popular Santa Specials which start on the 1st December and run every weekend throughout the month plus 20th – 24th December.
The East Lancashire Railway now hopes to continue with a successful Christmas season which will undoubtedly contribute to the running and maintaining of the railway for many more years to come.
