DR. JONES BY WHITE DESERT UNVEILS SECOND LATIN AMERICAN EXPEDITION: COLOMBIA TO GUATEMALA

DR. JONES BY WHITE DESERT UNVEILS SECOND LATIN AMERICAN EXPEDITION: COLOMBIA TO GUATEMALA

Following the successful launch of Dr. Jones: Peru to Patagonia, the inaugural itinerary from White Desert’s new Latin American expedition series, White Desert is expanding the collection with the debut of Dr. Jones: Colombia to Guatemala, a highly curated new journey designed for travellers seeking deeper cultural immersion, extraordinary access and once-in-a-lifetime exploration across some of the most remote and visually spectacular landscapes in the Americas.

Launching for the 2027 season, the new itinerary marks the second evolution of the Dr Jones portfolio, a collection inspired by the romance and adventure of vintage exploration, reimagined through White Desert’s signature lens of refined luxury and intimate access. Designed as a seamless aerial expedition connecting some of the region’s most remote and difficult-to-reach destinations, the journey bypasses major airports and conventional travel routes entirely. At the heart of the experience is an iconic 1940s DC-3 aircraft, painstakingly restored through a $10 million conversion. Specially equipped to land on remote and uneven airfields, the 12-seat aircraft flies low and slow, evoking the golden age of aviation, when travel was defined by glamour, intimacy, and adventure.

“Dr. Jones immerses guests in landscapes and communities that remain deeply connected to local traditions, culture and history — places still shaped by the people who live there,” said Patrick Woodhead, Co-Founder and CEO of White Desert. “From the vast openness of Colombia to the dense living cultures of Guatemala; from jungle to savanna; river to reef; from ancient worlds to those still unfolding today. This is not about ticking destinations off a list. It’s about entering them deeply — and leaving changed by what you were allowed to see and experience.”

Dr. Jones Colombia to Guatemala itinerary highlights include:
Medellín: Begin the Colombia journey in Medellín, a city once defined by conflict and now celebrated as one of Latin America’s most remarkable cultural transformations, with immersive coffee tastings, vibrant hillside neighbourhoods, and insider experiences that reveal the city’s creative pulse and resilient spirit.

San Agustin: Venture into the spiritual heartland of Colombia to explore one of the Americas’ most enigmatic archaeological regions, where ancient volcanic stone statues, sacred rituals, and dramatic Andean landscapes create an atmosphere seemingly untouched by time. At this UNESCO World Heritage site — home to the largest necropolis in the Americas — guests are welcomed with a traditional ceremony led by a local shaman, setting the tone for the transformative journey ahead.

La Macarena: Discover the surreal beauty of Caño Cristales — the legendary “River of Five Colors,” a unique natural wonder that only exists here — while hiking through remote jungle terrain, swimming in crystal-clear natural pools, and gaining rare insight into the region’s complex FARC history from local guides.
Los Llanos: Experience Colombia’s traditional cowboy culture alongside the legendary “llaneros,” whose songs are part of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, through horseback riding, music under the stars, and exhilarating low-altitude microlight flights over vast savannas teeming with wildlife.

Providencia: Conclude the Colombian leg on the remote island of Providencia, home to the third-largest barrier reef in the world. Extremely difficult to reach via commercial flight, the island feels worlds away from modern tourism — with no cruise ships, no major resorts, and an Afro-Caribbean Creole culture that remains deeply authentic and beautifully unfiltered. Here, travel slows to the rhythm of the sea through world-class snorkelling and diving, traditional spearfishing excursions, diving with sharks, boat journeys across surreal turquoise waters, and intimate beach dinners featuring the day’s fresh catch prepared island-style at sunset.
Petén: Journey deep into Guatemala’s UNESCO-protected rainforest to explore the archaeological sites of Tikal (Which featured in Star Wars in 1977 as the Rebel Base) and the remote, unexplored ruins of Uaxactún. One of the most remote and authentic Mayan communities in Guatemala, a Mayan spiritual guide and archaeologist will guide the exploration far from the crowds.

Antigua: Conclude the expedition in the city of Antigua, where centuries-old ruins, cobblestone streets, active volcanoes, private dining experiences, hikes across Pacaya’s black volcanic terrain, and tastings of Guatemala’s famed Ron Zacapa rum deliver a dramatic and atmospheric finale.

Building on White Desert’s legacy as a pioneer in luxury Antarctic travel, Dr. Jones extends the company’s spirit of exploration far beyond the polar regions. The journeys are intentionally intimate, with 12 guests, direct access, and places larger groups cannot reach. Every detail is thoughtfully curated and executed to White Desert’s exacting standards, ensuring a highly personalised, effortlessly immersive, and truly transformative travel experience from start to finish.

The new Dr. Jones Colombia to Guatemala expedition is now on sale, starting at £37,477 per person with limited departures available from August to September for the 2027 season. For more information, please visit www.dr-jones.com.
