With the establishment of a new logistics center in Brno, DB Schenker is now linking up road and rail transportation services in the Czech Republic. The 8,000 square meter terminal went into operation just a few days ago and is the first DB Schenker Railport in the country.

“With this new center, we are now able to offer our customers in the Czech Republic the all-important linkup of road and rail shipments from a single source,” explained Karl Nutzinger, CEO Europe at Schenker AG. The logistics hall, which covers an area of 6,300 square meters, is equipped with state-of-the art technology. The remaining area of 1,700 square meters will be used for transshipping cargo. The facility in Brno-Slatina has its own rail siding, which is provided with an 85 meter covered ramp. It is conveniently located at the interface of the road network and the pan-European rail corridor and will be used as a transport hub for shipments to and from the Balkans.

DB Schenker has been offering regular services to the Balkan countries for eleven years now with its “PowerRailer” trains. The new terminal in Brno will make rail transport an even more economically interesting alternative for industry and trade in South Moravia, thus also having a positive impact on the carbon footprint of the customers. The service offering includes both block train services and intermodal solutions with appropriate warehousing concepts.

The activities of the Czech country organization Schenker spol. s r.o. in Brno were previously organized from four different locations within the urban area. With the opening of the new facility, the activities are now combined at one location. Only the trade fair freight forwarding activities will remain on the exhibition grounds.
