Southwest Airlines Reports April Traffic Up 14.6 Percent

Southwest Airlines Co. announced today that the Company flew 3.5 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in April 2000, a 14.6 percent increase from the 3.1 billion RPMs flown in April 1999. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 13.1 percent to 4.8 billion from the April 1999 level of 4.3 billion. The load factor for the month was 73.0 percent, up 1.0 points from 1999.

For the first four months of 2000, Southwest flew 13.0 billion RPMs, compared to the 11.1 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 1999, an increase of 16.7 percent. Available seat miles increased 13.9 percent to 19.0 billion from the 1999 level of 16.6 billion. The year-to-date load factor was 68.4 percent, up 1.7 points from the same period last year.
