Laterooms reports rise in city breaks

LateRooms.com, the late availability hotel specialist has reported that bookings for weekends in European capitals and major cities are up by 33% on the same period last year. UK holidaymakers are also leaving it until the last minute to book their break away, with over 50 per cent of bookings being made within 3 days of departure.

The top five destinations for city breaks are:

1. Rome

2. Barcelona

3. Paris

4. Amsterdam

5. Milan

“The wet weather is forcing people to reconsider their holiday plans and city breaks offer far more indoor activities such as museums and art galleries,” said Tony Walsh, development director, LateRooms.com. “The last thing people want is to book a coastal holiday, but then be stuck inside all day while the rain ruins their plans for beach trips and walks in the countryside.”

“A city break means that there is always something to keep the family occupied - whether this is shopping or sightseeing. It’s clear the UK public know the country’s weather too well, and are waiting to see what happens before booking their break away,” he added.
