US , EU agree on open skies deal

The European Union and United States are agreeing on a new pact to open the transatlantic aviation market, smoothing over a rift on airline ownership.According to Reuters news agency, the two sides have reached a provisional agreement that is to be presented to EU transport ministers later this month.

The provisional deal reached on Friday sought to address EU concerns about ownership and control.

Washington will not change rules limiting foreign ownership of voting rights in U.S. carriers to 25 percent, but the pact would make it easier for EU companies to buy up to 100 percent of non-voting shares, sources familiar with the deal told Reuters.
