Riga Airport shows 40% traffic boost

Riga Airport experienced a 39,6 % growth in the number of passengers during the first 6 months of 2006 compared to the same period in 2005.  A total of 1,132,150 passengers used Riga Airport during the first half of 2006 compared to 810,859 during the first half of 2005. 

The largest number of passengers travelled between Riga and London (Gatwick, Stansted, Heathrow), followed by Dublin, Frankfurt (Frankfurt and Hahn), Copenhagen, Stockholm (Arlanda and Skavsta), Oslo, Berlin, Liverpool, Amsterdam and Helsinki.

airBaltic is the dominant airline at Riga Airport with 39 % of market share during the first 6 months of 2006.  airBaltic carried 438,068 passengers compared to 332,923 during the first 6 months of 2005.  Ryanair carried 324,517 passengers compared to 175,800 during the first 6 months in 2005.  Scheduled flight leaders airBaltic and Ryanair were followed by KLM, Czech Airlines, British Airways, Easy Jet, Finnair, Lufthansa, Aer Lingus and Norwegian. 

Riga is one of the fastest growing airports in Europe and the largest one in the Baltic states.
