Nevis Prepares For Sea Faire

The annual Culturama festivities on the island of Nevis will add a new component to the celebration this year with a day-long program of activities at Oualie Beach surrounding the sea and its impact on the lives of the residents and visitors of Nevis.
Sea Faire is a cultural event celebrating the historical and modern
relationships that Nevisians have with the sea. The Culturama Sea Faire
Committee, headed by Barbara Whitman, Director of the Sealife Education Center at Oualie Beach known as Under the Sea, describes this event as,

“an opportunity to entertain and educate the public through activities,
contests, demonstrations and exhibits about the ocean. We are planning to offer fun-filled family activities that will revolve around
sea-related art, music, literature, history, marine science and nautical
skills.”

Ms. Whitman notes that,

“Public awareness of the sea and the issues that affect it are important for all of us on Nevis. The marine environment
affects the well-being of everyone on the island in so many ways.  Our
goal with Sea Faire is to spread the word in a fun an interesting way
that protecting the marine environment will make a difference in our
future.”
