Cozumel gets set for 34th annual Mexican Boat Rodeo

Grab your rods as it is alleged that throughout the waters of the Caribbean, there is no sanctuary for fisherman quite like Cozumel. This year, fishing enthusiasts can join Cozumel for the 34th annual Mexican Boat Rodeo sport fishing tournament, May 13 to 15, 2005.
Offering some of the best game fishing in the region, Cozumel hosts several annual sport fish tournaments throughout the spring, the most popular being the Mexican Boat Rodeo.

More than 100 boats participate in the event each year, bringing together competitors from Mexico and around the world to catch Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Wahoo, Dorado, Tuna, Barracuda and other game fish.

Recognised as one of the Mexico’s premier sporting events, the Mexican Boat Rodeo is open to the general public.  People interested in participating in the tournament simply need to register their boats in México. Registration fee is US$550.

Locals enjoy the festivities that surround the tournament and cheer as each fish is weighed in and prizes are awarded. This year 10 prizes will be awarded, including five Ford cars for the winner and top four finalists, three motorcycles for sixth through eighth place, and a motorcycle awarded to both the “Best Captain” and “Best Sailor” of the event, for a combined total of US$100,000 in prizes.
