A film crew from Britain’s GMTV was recently in Dubai making a series of short television films on Dubai for the award-winning programme as guests of Emirates.
The crew of four - including celebrity presenter Jenni Falconer - were in Dubai to make two mini travel destination features for the programme. With a regular audience of between six and seven million viewers, GMTV is Europe’s most popular breakfast show.
The programmes will be focusing on Dubai as an ideal winter break from the UK and will feature a host of activities that the city has to offer. The GMTV crew was particularly impressed with Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa which is owned and exclusively managed by Emirates.
The programme’s producer, Emma Gormley, said of their visit to Al Maha: “It is an amazing place. Beautiful, peaceful and relaxing with incredible service. The staff are well informed and helpful and the experience has been wonderful filming here - we got exactly what we needed.
“I have never really been in the desert before and it is incredible to get so close to such an amazing environment. It is also very interesting to see the contrast between the city and the desert - both of which have a lot to offer visitors to Dubai.”
Ghaith Al Ghaith, Emirates Executive Vice President Commercial Operations Worldwide, said: “Hosting high-profile media like this is part of our on-going multi-million dollar campaign to promote the UAE and Emirates throughout the world. GMTV is the most watched breakfast show in the UK where we currently operate 11 daily flights, with British travellers topping the list of nationalities visiting Dubai for both leisure and business.
“The UK is a key market for us, and working with the media to positively promote UAE and Emirates will help Dubai meet its target growth for tourism in the city.”
Along with Al Maha, the group also toured the city as part of an Arabian Adventures city tour, experienced the new Madinat Jumeirah complex and souq and the Emirates Towers Hotel, as well as filming a host of other activities in and around Dubai.
The programmes, which will form part of GMTV’s annual travel series, will run between January and the middle of February and will showcase Dubai along with other destinations during that time.
