Penny Heads for Serentiy

Serenity Spa at Seaham Hall Hotel, has appointed a Director to oversee all operations.

Penny Dumbleton will not only look after the day-to-day running of Serenity Spa, she will also drive the business forward, focussing on increasing membership numbers and building upon the spa’s award-winning standards.
Penny began her career in what rates as probably the World’s leading centre for health and fitness…California.

That was 20 years ago. Since then, she’s worked with some of the leading spa and leisure consultancy groups including ESPA International and Academy Leisure and Spa Resources, which gave her the opportunity to work on spa and leisure projects worldwide for such clients like Mandarin Oriental Group, Four Seasons, Sheraton and Moevenpick hotel groups.

“I’m lucky to have worked for terrific companies,” said Penny. “Consequently, I’ve gained a mass of experience when it comes to opening and managing spa and leisure facilities. As Operations Director for Academy Leisure I was responsible for all existing Academy sites, (The Academy Health Club and Spa was consistently voted one of the top 3 clubs and spas, in the country), for managing and motivating teams, enhancing customer satisfaction, improving financial performance, restructuring and implementing operational procedures, and improving standards of performance for the group. That’s precisely what I intend to do here at Serenity Spa.”

Penny is starting off with a high level of expectation. Serenity Spa, which has a strong Far East influence, is frequently named as one of the UK’s leading spas. It’s been voted as World’s Best Spa for Style, UK Best Retreat and is the only spa in the region to achieve a 5-Wave rating for quality and service.


Membership is already running at record levels but she intends to slightly increase membership while maintaining current standards.

“We’ve waited for over a year to appoint Penny,” said Tom Maxfield…chairman of Tom’s Companies that owns Seaham Hall and Serenity Spa. “She has a magnificent record within the spa industry having successfully completed the pre-opening and management of Turnberry Hotel, Academy Health Club & Spa, Academy Leeds Health Club, Norbreck Health Club and The Grove Sequoia Spa.”
