ISPA UK To Explore Spa Industry Standards

ISPA UK will be holding a meeting to discuss spa industry standards in April at Stoke Park Club Hotel, Stoke Poges in Buckinghamshire, UK. The event will also include a joint SPA/BSP initiative to gain the support of the Government for an industry-wide ratings programme.

Together with the ISPA UK Committee, the support of Newby Hands from Harpers & Queen, and the co-operation of Chester King, MD of Stoke Park Club, the board has also arranged a stimulating and beneficial afternoon and evening for industry figures on the 27th April 2003.

Suki Kalirai, Chairman of the UK & Ireland ISPA Committee said, “As our industry grows we are faced with many areas of common interest that would benefit all of us if we could debate them and in some instances progress them together. We can also benefit from networking and sharing non-competitive ideas and practices.
“Having taken counsel from many of you over the last few months we have put together an introductory launch day programme that will be both stimulating and informative. During the day we will be able to learn from one of the best-known PR and beauty professionals in the form of Newby Hands - Associate Editor of Harpers and Queen. We will also be able to look around the magnificent new Spa at Stoke Park Club and talk to the management team there, lead by MD, Chester King.”

In addition, Paul Simon, the Chairman of the British Spas Federation is set to commence the debate for a joint initiative between the associations, potentially partially funded by the British Tourist Authority, to put in place a Standards and Ratings System for Spas. This has particular importance as Brussels is under initial pressure from some of the European Federations to put in place standards that would not be advantageous to the UK market if it did not have its own system.

Kalirai concluded, “I hope you will take this opportunity to meet with your colleagues in the industry and use this occasion to begin a new chapter in increased co-operation that will allow us to fight common causes together. Amongst these are beneficial areas such as V.A.T. on treatments, recruitment and standards.”
