Brazil welcomes record number of British Tourists between January and May 2026

The arrival of British tourists to Brazil grew 4.82% in May 2026, reaching the best result for the month since 2017. In the accumulated year, the indicator gains even more relevance: between January and May, the flow of visitors from the United Kingdom advanced 11.23% compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 97,677 British tourists, the highest mark in the historical series for the first five months.

The British market is part of a favourable scenario for European tourism in Brazil. In May, the number of visitors from Europe grew by 14.59% compared to the same month last year, registering the best result for the period since 2015. Between January and May, the continent accumulated a 17.21% increase, with the highest volume of tourists since 2006.

“This growth reinforces the effectiveness of international promotion and confirms Europe as a priority market for Brazilian tourism. We are maintaining a flow of international visitors equivalent to last year’s historical record, now accompanied by more qualified indicators, such as longer stays, higher average spending, and a more distributed presence throughout the national territory. This scenario reflects what we planned in the Plano Brasis and stems from a collective effort, bringing together states, municipalities, and the private sector to strengthen Brazil as a global destination”, highlights Bruno Reis, president of Embratur/Visit Brasil (Brazilian Tourist Board).

To strengthen this positioning, Brazil has been intensifying its activities in Europe, with initiatives for international promotion, relationship building with tour operators, closer ties with specialised media outlets, and promotion of national destinations. In the United Kingdom, the combination of nature, culture, gastronomy, adventure, wellness, and great urban experiences reinforces the country’s potential as a long-haul destination for travellers seeking diversity, quality, and inspiration.

In the period from January to May 2026, Brazilian destinations accounted for 4,819,685 passenger arrivals in total, the second-best performance for the period in the historical series.
