bmibaby launches new services to Belfast City Airport
Low cost airline bmibaby has announced it will commence flying from Manchester, East Midlands, Birmingham and Cardiff to George Best Belfast City Airport from 1 January 2011.
bmibaby will transfer its operation from Belfast International Airport to Belfast City Airport, in a move to offer more convenient services to passengers wishing to travel into Belfast.
The new bmibaby services will add to the bmi’s current flights between London Heathrow and Belfast City Airport, meaning that the bmi group will become one of the largest operators to and from Belfast City Airport.
bmibaby will operate up to 48 flights a week from its four UK bases to Belfast City Airport, with fares starting from just £9.99 one way including taxes.
With daily departures, the low cost airline will offer a convenient morning and evening schedule suitable to both the business and leisure traveller.

Julian Carr, managing director, bmibaby, said:
“We are excited to announce that from 1 January 2011 we will commence operations from Manchester, East Midlands, Birmingham and Cardiff to Belfast City Airport.
“This move will enable our customers to have a frequent and comfortable jet service to Belfast City Airport from our four regional bases in the UK.
“bmibaby will offer great low fares and frequent flights, meaning the new services will work well for both business and leisure travellers looking to fly to the Northern Irish capital.”
Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, Chief Executive Officer, bmi, said:
“bmi British Midland International has a long and proud connection with Northern Ireland, serving the city of Belfast for over 26 years.
“It makes obvious business sense to have the bmi group airlines serving the same Belfast airport. The group’s physical presence at the airport is also increased and customers now have an excellent range of bmi group UK destinations available to and from Belfast City Airport - the best choice for business and leisure travellers alike.
“The bmi group will now offer up to 89 flights a week from Heathrow and the UK regions to Belfast City Airport.”
Brian Ambrose, Chief Executive of Belfast City Airport said:
“Everyone at Belfast City Airport extends a warm welcome to bmibaby. We’re delighted that bmibaby recognises the continuing investment in the airport’s infrastructure, aimed at improving the passenger experience, which we believe makes Belfast City Airport world class.
“This is great news not only for the 1,500 people employed here but the wider community who rely on the airport’s continuing success.”
