Air New Zealand launches Sydney check-in kiosks

Air New Zealand is the first airline to offer all international passengers departing Sydney International Airport for trans-Tasman and Pacific Island destinations fast track kiosk check-in facilities.

From today, passengers can simply scan their machine readable passports at a kiosk to be issued with a boarding pass, and bag tags in a process that takes a matter of seconds. Passengers travelling with check-in luggage then take it to the ‘bag drop’ area where staff will check their ID and scan their bag tags to accept them for travel.

Group General Manager Australasia Bruce Parton says the 15 check-in kiosks at Sydney International Airport’s departure terminal are expected to almost eliminate queuing and customers will notice a significant improvement in their airport experience.

“This is an expansion of the innovation we’ve been pioneering in New Zealand which has revolutionised the trans-Tasman travel experience. Air New Zealand currently operates kiosk check-in facilities at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown airports for trans-Tasman passengers and around 80% of customers choose this quicker method”.

Staff will still be on hand to assist passengers travelling to points other than New Zealand and the Pacific Islands and there will be a separate counter for the exclusive use of premium customers.
