U.S. REMAINS WORLD’S LARGEST TRAVEL & TOURISM MARKET BUT WTTC WARNS THE COUNTRY IS AT A CROSSROADS
The United States remained the largest Travel & Tourism market in the world in 2025 but is losing market share according to the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) latest Economic Impact Research, sponsored by its Lead Research Partner, Chase Travel. While 2025 saw the best year ever for the Travel & Tourism sector in terms of GDP growth of 4.1%, the story was very different for North America, which was the slowest-growing region globally, rising just 1.0%, and by only 0.9% in the U.S.
Brand USA Launches “America the Beautiful” Global Tourism Campaign
Brand USA, the destination marketing organization for the United States, today launched America the Beautiful, a global tourism marketing campaign and platform that represents the organization’s most ambitious marketing initiative to date. The campaign debuts during this week’s Brand USA Travel Week U.K. and Europe, now in its seventh year, which connects U.S. destinations with leading international buyers and media from 20 countries. Today’s announcement comes as international travel continues to drive meaningful economic impact. Year-to-date through July, travel and tourism exports totaled $147 billion, up two percent year-over-year. That spending is projected to generate approximately $39.6 billion in federal tax revenue by year’s end, support millions of American jobs, and contribute to a total economic impact of $551 billion in 2025. The campaign is strategically timed to build on that momentum and accelerate growth ahead of 2026, a milestone year marked by the FIFA World Cup, America’s 250th anniversary, and the Route 66 centennial.
U.S Economy Set To Lose $12.5BN In International Traveler Spend this year
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), the global body representing the Travel & Tourism private sector, today announced its latest Economic Impact Research which found that the U.S. is on track to lose a staggering $12.5BN in international visitor spending this year. Notably, international visitor spending to the U.S. is projected to fall to just under $169BN this year, down from $181BN in 2024.

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) today launched its 2024 Economic Impact Trends Report, which has revealed the U.S. as the world’s most powerful Travel & Tourism market, contributing a record-breaking $2.36 TN to the nation’s economy last year.
