Malaysian prime minister signs up to WTTC/UNWTO Leaders for Tourism campaign
Malaysian prime minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak has cited tourism as a major factor in the growth of the national economy. Joining the Global Leaders for Tourism Campaign earlier, the prime minister argued the sector has a crucial role in transforming Malaysia into a high-income country by 2020.

Tourism minister Edmund Bartlett revealed: “Jamaica has been elected to serve as vice president for the 19th General Assembly of the UNWTO now underway in South Korea and as Jamaica’s representative I will again preside over several sessions of the Assembly.”

UNWTO calls for continued support for Japanese tourism
United Nations World Tourism Organisation secretary-general, Taleb Rifai, has called for continued international support of the tourism sector in Japan. “It is vital that we continue to work together to share accurate information on Japan’s recovery, provide support to those areas most affected and pass on the message that the situation has returned to normalcy in most of the areas which suffered the impact of the March earthquake,” explained Rifai.
Morocco signs up to WTTC campaign
The Moroccan minister of tourism & handicraft, Yassir Zenagui, has received an Open Letter from the World Travel & Tourism Council and United Nations World Tourism Organisation highlighting the importance tourism for national and international economic development. Zenagui received the letter on behalf of the chief of the government of Morocco, Abbas El Fassi, as the Africa Hotel Investment Conference held in Casablanca, Morocco.
