As thousands of teenagers collected their GCSE language exam results last month, a new study from Skyscanner shows that, while 93% of those surveyed learned a language at school, less than a quarter of respondents are at ease speaking the language when abroad, with almost half admitting they “only use a few words”.

Flight comparison site Skyscanner reports that flight searches to Turkey more than doubled in the aftermath of the failure of specialist holiday firm Holidays 4U this week.
There has been a seven-fold rise in searches for flights to London in the week before the royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton, according to the flight comparison site Skyscanner. The Dutch and the Americans top the list whilst the French appear to be shunning the occasion.
“We know from a survey of our users earlier in the year that passengers are increasingly impatient with the time needed for current security checks. Travellers are in favour of anything which will make security checks faster, but they need to feel confident that safety measures have not been compromised too. 66% of users voted that airport scanners were a good idea as they would speed up security checks and improve security,” said Barry Smith, Skyscanner co-founder and business director.
