Leonardo Hotels acquires Portland Hotels in Scotland
Leonardo Hotels has acquired the strategically placed portfolio of Portland Hotels in Scotland. The deal will increase the company’s presence in Edinburgh, while adding new locations in Glasgow, Perth and Aberdeen.

Ryanair has launched its biggest-ever Scottish winter schedule, with 13 new Edinburgh routes to Baden, Budapest, Carcassonne, Eindhoven, Hamburg, Katowice, Nantes, Prague, Szczecin, Toulouse, Venice, Valencia and Wroclaw.
Courtyard by Marriott opens in Edinburgh
Marriott International is adding the Courtyard Edinburgh to its portfolio in Scotland. The city centre hotel is set within a historic Georgian terrace located in the heart of Edinburgh’s new shopping and entertainment hub at the east end of Princes Street.
Scottish government confirms plans to cut APD by half
The Scottish government has confirmed plans to halve Air Passenger Duty by the end of the current Scottish Parliament in 2021. Willie Walsh, IAG chief executive, welcomed the move. He said: “This is a major step towards the complete abolition of this stealth tax that hinders economic growth, tourism and jobs.”

Scottish government offers support to Heathrow expansion
Minister in the Scottish government have offered their support to the plan to add a third runway at Heathrow Airport, pointing to significant strategic and economic benefits for Scotland. Delta Air Lines further expands Scotland flights with Glasgow departure
Two weeks after Delta Air Lines started service between Edinburgh and New York-JFK, the US airline has announced it will double its Scottish network in summer 2017 when it begins flying between Glasgow and the Big Apple. The service, which will begin on May 26th, 2017, will be the only non-stop fight between Glasgow and New York-JFK and will operate daily throughout the summer.
Whisky Co. launches bespoke Scotland tours
Whisky tourism in Scotland is big business, with around 120 active whisky distilleries, 40 more in the pipeline and distillery visitor numbers reaching upwards of 1.5 million per year. However, there’s a lack of services providing a personal connection between whisky tourists and the distilleries.
Air Transat launches new services to Montreal
Air Transat has launched Scotland’s newest route, with a service from Glasgow Airport to Montreal Pierre Trudeau Airport. The new weekly flight, which runs until October, connects the province of Quebec to Scotland for the first time. Montreal is Canada’s second largest city with a population of just over 3.5 million people.
Loch Lomond waterbus service extended to new locations
The popular Loch Lomond waterbus service has been extended to take in additional locations around the world-famous loch, meaning visitors now have even more choice when exploring the area. Due to popular demand, the waterbus will now operate a new service between Loch Lomond Shores in Balloch to Inchmurrin and Inchcailloch, giving people the opportunity to explore two of Loch Lomond’s most popular islands.
