Ryanair to close website for 10 hours
Ryanair has confirmed that its website will close for a 10-hour period from 19:00hrs Wednesday 24th June 2009 until 05:00hrs Thursday 25th June due to an essential upgrade maintenance.

Michael O’Leary, the chief executive of Ryanair, has sold 5 million shares in the airline.Ryanair told the stock market this morning that O’Leary had sold 5m shares at €3.75 each on Friday. The sale, which raises him £16.5m, means he now owns just over 60m shares in the budget airline, a stake of just 4%.

Ryanair passengers face the prospect of loading their own baggage on to planes as part of a series of new measures proposed by chief executive Michael O’Leary to trim further costs off flying.The company believes that it could save money if it did not have to pay for baggage handlers to carry suitcases from the terminal to the aircraft.
Ryanair reports first losses for 20 years
Ryanair reported its first annual loss in 20 years as rising fuel, lower margins and a hefty write-down on its investment in Aer Lingus took their toll.The figures bore all the marks of a recession - losses rose to €180.4 million (£155 million) for the full-year to March 31 compared with a €438.9 million profit the year before. Profits were hit by a 59 percent hike in fuel costs to €1.2 billion, whilst the value of its 29.8 percent stake in struggling Aer Lingus took a €222.5 million writedown.
Ryanair mulls fat tax after online poll
Ryanair is considering levying a “fat tax” following an online poll in which 30,000 passengers voted in favour of charging excess weight fees for very large passengers. The low-cost carrier would follow United Airlines which has just announced plans to impose such a charge on overweight people it calls “passengers who require extra space”. American Airlines is also introducing the charge.
