Priceline has received approval from the Federal Trade Commission to go forward with its $1.8 billion acquisition of meta-search site Kayak. Priceline is expected to complete the acquisition of the travel search engine by the end of March.
Priceline.com: Holiday airfares 4% higher than last year
December holiday airfares are continuing their creep upwards, according to priceline.com (Nasdaq: PCLN). Based on the last two weeks of round-trip domestic ticket sales on priceline.com, the national average holiday airfare is $469, or 4% more expensive than airfares at this time last year. The current national average airfare is also higher than it was a month ago, when travelers would have paid an average of $444 for their holiday tickets. If purchased in early October, the average holiday fare was $430.
Priceline swoops for Kayak in $1.8bn deal
Priceline.com has signed a definitive agreement for the Priceline Group to acquire Kayak in a stock and cash transaction. Under the terms of the agreement, the transaction values Kayak at $1.8 billion - or $40 per share.
