Luis Monreal new Director Sales Middle East, Lufthansa Group Airlines
Luis Monreal has been appointed new Director Sales Middle East Lufthansa Group Airlines, starting 01 April 2025. Based in Dubai, he will be steering the sales and commercial activities as well as coordinating and managing the representation for Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, Brussels Airlines, Edelweiss and Eurowings in the large Middle East sales region, consisting of 16 countries. This region is comprised of all markets in the Gulf region (GCC), Turkey, the Levant region, Iraq, Iran and Pakistan. In his new position, Luis Monreal will report to Julia Hillenbrand, Vice President Sales Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Lufthansa Group Airlines. He will be succeeding Serkan Guerguen, who has taken over a new position at Lufthansa Group headquarters in Frankfurt.
Lufthansa Group increases proportion of women in management positions to over 25 percent
The Lufthansa Group achieved its target of 25 percent female managers in the first quarter of 2025. Six years ago, the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the umbrella organization and association of over 300 airlines worldwide, launched the “25by2025” target to improve diversity, equality and inclusion in the aviation industry. More than 200 aviation companies have committed to this goal.
Award-winning Lufthansa Allegris cabin now bookable for further destinations
From now on, travelers can book flights with Lufthansa Allegris to additional destinations and select special Allegris seats. From March 30, the new long-haul cabin will also be available from Munich to San Diego and New York-Newark (from mid-April) and continuously from the beginning of August also to Charlotte. The connection to Bengaluru will continue to be offered. Guests who have already reserved a seat on these flights can look forward to a free upgrade to a comfortable Allegris seat. Initially, passengers can experience the new First Class with its unique suites on flights to San Francisco, Chicago, San Diego, Shanghai and Bengaluru.
Lufthansa extends A380 service to Bangkok

Lufthansa Group has signed an agreement to receive a convertible share representing a 10 per cent stake of the Latvian state airline airBaltic which will be issued at a subscription price of 14 million euros. Additionally, Lufthansa Group will receive a seat in the airBaltic Supervisory Board

Lufthansa starts an exclusive partnership with Sho Shibuya. The artist will be designing unique loungewear for the airline’s new Allegris First Class. The Japanese artist Sho Shibuya became world-famous with his works, which change in impressive color gradients from dawn to sunset. The contemporary artist has created a unique design for Lufthansa, inspired by the view of the sky that can only be experienced high above the clouds from an airplane. However, his art is not just for viewing but can be felt and experienced up close.
Together with Hong Kong International Airport, Lufthansa Group to launch Upstream Check-In Service
Since September 30th , Lufthansa Group has offered its guests the innovative Upstream Check-In (UCI) service in 8 ports of the Greater Bay Area. This service enables passengers who fly with Lufthansa German Airlines and Swiss International Air Lines to complete immigration, check-in and baggage tagging in 8 ports, namely 6 ferry ports and 2 land ports, before heading to the SkyPier, located in the restricted area of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). Seamlessly, passengers can then proceed directly to the boarding gates without clearing immigration and customs procedures in Hong Kong. Importantly, Upstream Check-In is also available for Lufthansa Group’s passengers who hold flight tickets from Europe to Greater Bay Area.
SWISS extends its Green Fares to all its long-haul flights
Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) and its sister airlines within the Lufthansa Group will be extending their present Green Fares to their entire route networks with effect from 4 December 2024. By opting for a Green Fare for their long-haul flight, SWISS customers will reduce the carbon emissions generated by their individual air travel by 10 per cent through the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The remaining 90 per cent of such emissions will be offset through a financial contribution to quality climate protection projects.
Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn announce record figures
Since the beginning of the year, 432,000 travelers have chosen to use Lufthansa Express Rail to and from Frankfurt Airport. This means that the previous year’s result was exceeded by 28 percent in October 2024. By the end of the year, a total of more than 500,000 bookings have been confirmed. Never before in the more than 20-year cooperation between Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn (DB) have so many travelers opted for the joint offer as in 2024.

The Lufthansa Group has been awarded the prize for the world’s best airline app 2024 at the World Aviation Festival (WAF). The Lufthansa Group app was previously evaluated by customers and nominated for the final round. A jury of experts compared the four nominees in a competition, the “Battle of the Airline Apps”, and rated the Lufthansa Group app as the best among the biggest players in the industry. The Lufthansa product came out on top against the apps from Emirates, Qatar Airways and Air India.
