Jetstar Japan to operate 24 new Airbus A320s
Jetstar Japan has finalised arrangements with five lessors so it can purchase and lease 24 new Airbus A320 aircraft. All of the aircraft, scheduled to be delivered to the airline in the next three years, have been sourced through the Qantas Group’s existing fleet orders, allowing access to early delivery slots.
Vietnam Airlines takes Jetstar Pacific stake
Australian flag-carrier Qantas has confirmed Vietnam Airlines will take a majority stake in low-cost offshoot JetStar Pacific. The 69.93 per cent stake is presently owned by Vietnamese State Capital Investment Corporation.
Jetstar increases capacity for 2012
Jetstar is adding new routes and services to its schedule in 2012 that will mean in an additional 8,500 seats for its Singapore based hub. The extra capacity includes over 40 new weekly services added to popular destinations in Australia, Japan, Vietnam and Greater China.
Death onboard Jetstar flight to New Zealand
A man has choked to death on an airline meal on board a Jetstar flight from Singapore to Auckland. Robert Rippingale died while on route to his native New Zealand for a family reunion leaving his distraught girlfriend sitting at his side for the remained of the flight.
Radical overhaul as Qantas Airways fights for survival
Qantas Airways has announced the purchase of over 100 new aircraft, the creation of two new airlines and a radical overhaul of existing fleet as part of a new five year plan to ensure its survival. New low-cost airline Jetstar Japan will be joined by a premium Asian carrier, while a $400 million overhaul of existing in-flight entertainment, aircraft interiors and airport lounges will be launched to meet changing demands.
Take off for Jetstar flights to Hanoi
Qantas-owned Jetstar has confirmed it will launch a four times weekly service between Singapore and Hanoi in Vietnam from December 15th 2011. Subject to government approval, the low cost airline will also add a daily Singapore-Ho Chi Minh city service from August 18th 2011 to expand its frequency to three times daily between the two cities.
Second Australian carrier grounded over safety concerns
Australian airline Jetstar grounded four aircraft overnight following concerns over safety. The carrier is the second in the region to see planes banned from the skies, with Tiger Airways seeing its whole fleet grounded until at least August 1st.

Safety was at the heard of a developing debate in Australia this morning, with carriers offering sharply different responses to the ongoing ash cloud crisis. While Australian flag-carrier Qantas has cancelled flights across the country, competitor Virgin Atlantic insisted it was safe to fly.
Australasian airlines grounded by Chilean ash
Qantas, Jetstar and Tiger Airways have all cancelled flights this morning, as strong winds carry ash particles from Puyehue Volcano in Chile across the southern hemisphere. Air travel in South America also continues to be disrupted, with flights in and out of the Argentine and Uruguayan capitals cancelled.

Singapore Airlines to launch long-haul budget carrier
Singapore Airlines has unveiled plans to launch a low-cost, long-haul carrier. The new carrier is expected to start operations within a year, and will be wholly owned by SIA but managed independently. It is expected to fly routes over five hours, competing with the likes of Jetstar Airways and AirAsiaX.
