IAG boosts Latin America and Middle East services

International Airlines Group – composed of British Airways and Iberia – has confirmed it will reorganise its network to improve services to Latin American and the Middle East. Under the plans, Latin America will become more accessible to British Airways customers and the Middle East will be brought to the doorstep of the Spanish flag-carrier’s travellers.

Iberia will start flying between Los Angeles and Madrid on March 28th. From that date, it will operate three non-stop flights weekly from Los Angeles –on Monday, Wednesdays, and Saturdays– with an additional Friday flight in July-September.

Iberia has signed a memorandum of understanding with Airbus for eight A330-300 aircraft, with an option on a further eight planes. In Asia, Cathay Pacific Airways placed a firm order with the European manufacturer for 15 more A330-300s.

British Airways has confirmed it will coordinate its transatlantic schedule with American Airways this summer. From March 27th, American Airlines and British Airways will effectively create a transatlantic shuttle service on the top US-UK routes by aligning the timing on their schedules.

Iberia, which merged with British Airways into International Airlines Group (IAG) in January has reached an agreement with Airbus to purchase eight A330-300 aircraft, and take out options for up to eight A330 family aircraft, for Iberia’s longhaul fleet.
