Hurtigruten unveils Antarctic cruises for 2018
For the 2018 season, Hurtigruten has expanded its Antarctica operation to a total of three expedition ships, spearheaded by the new hybrid vessel “Roald Amundsen.” As leaders in adventure travel in the waters surrounding the Antarctic continent, the Norwegian company continues to highlight the importance of balancing growth in adventure tourism with environmental concerns.

Hurtigruten christens two new expedition ships
Norwegian exploration travel company Hurtigruten has named the first two new hybrid powered expedition ships Roald Amundsen and Fridtjof Nansen after the two most influential Norwegian polar pioneers. The new ships have been designed by Rolls-Royce, in collaboration with the recognised Norwegian yacht designer Espen Øino, and are due to be delivered in 2018 and 2019.

MS Spitsbergen to be christened under the midnight sun
Norwegian explorer company Hurtigruten has today announced the setting for the much-anticipated christening of its new ship, MS Spitsbergen. Scheduled to take place on July 6th, the ceremony will see the new explorer ship christened under one of Norway’s most spectacular natural phenomenon, the midnight sun, for the first time in history.

This very northernmost part of Norway is also where, in 1896, Hurtigruten’s founder Richard With first started explorer tourism in the Arctic. The name was chosen following a competition in which more than 15,000 suggestions were submitted from all over the world.

Two killed in cruise ship fire in Norway
Two passengers have been killed following a blaze on board MS Nordlys in Norway. Some 262 people are believed to have been on board the Hurtigruten ASA operated vessel when it caught fire off the coast of the country earlier, with at least nine further people injured.
