Gulf Air moves to London Heathrow Terminal 4
Gulf Air, the national carrier of Bahrain and one of the UK’s longest serving Middle East airlines, today moved to its new home at London Heathrow Terminal 4 (T4).
“Golden age” of air travel at an end
The aviation sector has passed its “golden age” and is entering a period of decline, according to Monarch Airlines’ marketing director. Tim Jeans believes the last five years of low-cost start-ups and cheap fares is over. A combination of green taxes, fuel costs and a shift towards rail on short haul could spell the end of accessible air travel for all.
Premier Inn set to open new airport hotels
Premier Inn will be opening four new hotels at London’s main airports from Autumn 2011. The budget hotel chain will open two hotels at Heathrow and one at Gatwick and one at Stansted, creating a total of 1,570 new rooms. Premier Inn is spending more than £125 million on the developments.
Heathrow navigates downturn
Heathrow reported its third-busiest month of traffic on record in July, as a rise in consumer confidence coupled with a damp summer led to a surge in late bookings. Almost 6.5m passengers passed through the UK’s largest airport last month, an increase of 0.9% compared to July 2008, and its busiest month since July 2006.
BAA unveils plans for £1bn eco Heathrow T2
BAA plans to more than triple capacity at Heathrow Terminal 2 by investing £1 billion in a new passenger building plus a housing facility for the Star Alliance group. The first phase of the new terminal building will be completed in 2013, increasing capacity to 20 million passengers a year from 10 million currently. By 2019, capacity will reach 30 million a year.

The number of travellers using major UK airports fell to its lowest level for nine months in June, according to new figures from BAA, with passenger numbers down 5.9%.

The campaign against a third runway at Heathrow Airport is shifting up a gear after 23 local councils have joined forces to launch a legal challenge against the government decision to approve the expansion.At the High Court in London, the 2M group - representing the 23 authorities and backed by London Mayor Boris Johnson - is applying for a judicial review of the expansion decision granted in January by Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon.
Heathrow voted UK’s worst airport
Heathrow Airport has been voted the UK’s worst airport for customer satisfaction. Terminals 2, 3 and 4 came out worst in a poll by Which? Magazine, followed closely by Gatwick‘s two terminals. But the one bright spot was Heathrow Terminal 5 - despite its disastrous opening last year it managed a mid-table finish, scoring well for its shopping and eating.
Heathrow installs new landing technnology to cut delays
New technology has been installed at Heathrow that aims to dramatically cut the number of delays caused by poor visibility.The London airport becomes the first airport in the world to be fitted with the Microwave Landing System technology, which has also been installed on a fleet of British Airways planes. The manufacturers claim this will improve the possibility of landings in fog or other poor conditions by 20 percent.

The airline industry could face a £10 million bill from cancelled flights after the heaviest snow in the UK for 18 years brought chaos to airports. Services at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, London City Airport and Southampton were severely disrupted, together with road, rail and public transport connections.At Heathrow, a plane slipped off a taxiway. Snow and ice are being blamed for the incident which happened when a Cyprus Airways flight landed this morning and was moving to T1.
