Finnair and the biggest tour operators in Lapland have agreed a three-year cooperation arrangement for flights to Lapland as well as cooperation in marketing. The airline will significantly add to its Lapland flight schedule in November 2014 with the start of the winter traffic timetable season.

Finnair has signed a memorandum of understanding on sale and leaseback of two Airbus 330 aircraft and two Airbus 350 aircraft. The deal was signed with global aircraft leasing and financing company GECAS and is valued at approximately EUR 320 million.

Finnair has become the first airline in the world to operate Airbus A321 aircraft equipped with new, fuel-saving Sharklet wing tip devices. The extended-range, single-aisle aircraft, which has the lowest fuel burn, emissions and noise footprint in its class, will be quieter and more comfortable for passengers than the older planes it replaces, as well as about seven per cent more fuel efficient per seat.

The first step has been taken to enable Finnair to join British Airways and Japan Airlines in their successful joint business on flights between Europe and Japan. The three airlines intend to cooperate commercially by sharing revenue and by coordinating flight schedules and fares in order to offer greater benefits to customers travelling between Europe and Japan.

Finnair has confirmed it will continue to service to Tel Aviv during the winter season. Starting November Finnair serves Tel Aviv with two weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays, as during the ongoing summer season, but the schedule is modified to increase connectivity from European and Asian flights.

Pekka Vauramo has been appointed to the position of chief executive of Finnair. Vauramo, who is presently based in Hong Kong working as chief operating officer of the MacGregor Business Area of Cargotec, a Finnish cargo and load handling company, will take up the role on June 1st.
