With a series of big events on the horizon, The Convention Centre Dublin has taken the title of World’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre 2017 at the World Travel Awards. Here chief executive Stephen Meehan tells Breaking Travel News how the honour will allow him to develop the brand further.

The Convention Centre Dublin has won 35 awards for different aspects of its business since opening just seven years ago, and most recently was named Europe’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre 2017 at the World Travel Awards. Following this achievement, the venue moves forward to compete with other regional winners for the ultimate title of World’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre 2017 which will be announced at the Grand Final Gala Ceremony in Phu Quoc, Vietnam in December.

Icelandair has announced a new year-round service to Dublin, Ireland, beginning May 8th, from their hub in Keflavik, Iceland. The non-stop flights will operate six days a week with connections onwards to 20 gateways in North America.

In a deal worth €55.1 million the Singapore based company has acquired the 136-unit Temple Bar Hotel in Dublin, positioning Ascott right at the heart of one of the world’s most attractive business centres.

Etihad Airways today announced the introduction of an additional daily year-round service between Abu Dhabi and Dublin which increases frequency on the route to 14 flights a week, effective April 1st, 2017. The second daily operation, from the beginning of the summer 2017 season, reflects Etihad Airways’ long-term commitment to the route, and coincides with the Abu Dhabi-based carrier’s tenth anniversary of flying to the Irish capital.
