Second bomb strikes Russian city of Volgograd
A second suicide bomb has hit the Russian city of Volgograd in two days, with the latest strike on a trolleybus killing at least 14 people. The incident follows an attack yesterday on the central station in the city which claimed 17 lives.
Storm causes travel disruption across UK
Travel across the UK has been disrupted by a storm which swept the south of the country overnight. There have been delays at major airports, while train services have been cancelled and ferry services affected.
Dozens feared dead following Lao Airlines crash
As many as 40 people are feared dead following a plane crash in the south-east Asian destination of Laos. A Lao Airlines operated aircraft crashed into the Mekong River in southern Laos earlier near the town of Pakse, in Champasak province.
Malaysian bus crash kills 37
A total of 37 people have been killed after a tour bus plunged off the road into a ravine in Malaysia. In what is believed to be the country’s worst ever road accident, a further 16 passengers have been injured and taken to hospital.
Nairobi airport devastated by fire
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, has been closed after a massive fire swept through the terminal buildings. The country’s main international airport was evacuated, with all flights cancelled.
Scores killed in Spanish train crash
A train derailment in north-western Spain has claimed the lives of at least 77 passengers, with more than 100 more injured. Some 218 passengers were onboard the Madrid to Ferrol train when it came off the tracks near the city of Santiago de Compostela.
Alaska air crash kills ten
An air crash in the United States has claimed the lives of all ten people on board, officials have confirmed. An air taxi came down earlier in the state of Alaska as it took off from Soldotna airport, south of Anchorage.
Asiana Airlines aircraft crashes at San Francisco airport
An Asiana Airlines-operated aircraft has crash landed at San Francisco international airport, killing at least two people. The Boeing 777 made an emergency landing earlier, after arriving from Seoul.
Passengers escape Indonesian air crash
An MA-60 aircraft operated by Merpati Nusantara Airlines has crash landed in Indonesia with 52 people on board. Two people were injured in the accident, with no reports of fatalities.
Grandeur of the Seas sailing cancelled following fire
Royal Caribbean International announced earlier the May 31st, 2013 sailing of Grandeur of the Seas from Baltimore, Maryland, will be cancelled to allow for repairs to damages sustained as a result of a fire. Grandeur of the Seas was en route to CocoCay, The Bahamas, when the ship experienced a fire in the mooring area in the aft of the ship.
Tourists killed in Cappadocia balloon accident
Two tourists have been killed after two hot air balloons collided in Turkey. More than 20 people are also believed to have been injured in the accident, which happened in Cappadocia, a popular tourist destination due to its spectacular volcanic rock formations.
Three killed in Boston Marathon explosions
Officials in the United States have launched an investigation following two explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. FBI investigators launched a “potential terrorist inquiry” as three people were left dead with upward of 100 more injured.
