Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) today announced it has been named HP Supplier of the Year for its role in bringing exceptional new value to HP through innovation and collaboration under HP’s Supplier Development Program.
Continental Airlines unveiled its new flat-bed seat at World Travel Market this week, the first time the seat has been displayed outside North America. The seat made its debut flight on a Boeing 777 flight from Hong Kong to Continental’s New York hub, Newark Liberty International Airport, on November 1. The seat will be gradually installed across the fleet over the next three years.
Airline’s operations contribute an estimated 110,000 jobs and more than $5.9 billion in personal income for New York and New Jersey residents; Continental’s contributions to the New York and New Jersey region are expected to nearly double by 2030.
Bmi has formed a codeshare deal with Continental Airlines allowing it to sell tickets to US destinations served by the US carrier from five UK airports. The move comes as as Continental becomes the 25th member of the Star Alliance.

Continental Airlines today reported a September consolidated (mainline plus regional) load factor of 81.5 percent, 5.0 points above the September 2008 consolidated load factor, and a mainline load factor of 82.2 percent, 4.8 points above the September 2008 mainline load factor. The carrier reported a domestic mainline September load factor of 84.0 percent, 5.5 points above the September 2008 domestic mainline load factor, and an international mainline load factor of 80.4 percent, 4.1 points above September 2008. All four September load factors were records for the month.
Continental Airlines today announced changes to its checked baggage policy for customers travelling between Europe and the United States, including U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Continental Airlines has announced that it plans to join Star Alliance on Oct. 27, 2009. As previously announced, Continental will end its participation in SkyTeam after its last scheduled flight on Oct. 24, 2009.
Continental Airlines is to cut 1,700 jobs amid a drop-off in revenue and passenger numbers, as it unveiled widening quarterly losses of $214m. But its rivals United and Southwest fared much better, with quarterly profits that provide the strongest hint yet of a recovery in US aviation.
