Alaska Airlines continues fleet investment with Boeing deal
Boeing and Alaska Airlines have announced an order for five additional Next-Generation 737-900ERs (Extended Range). The order, valued at $481 million at list prices, continues Alaska Airlines’ investment in its fleet and efforts to improve fuel performance.
Boeing launches iPad application suite
Boeing has made performing routine maintenance and diagnosing aircraft issues faster and easier for airline technicians with a suite of new mobile applications for iPad. With the apps, technicians will have immediate access to manuals, part numbers and other critical information to resolve maintenance issues plane-side and collaborate with co-workers located elsewhere.

Boeing has welcomed Lufthansa’s selection of the 777-9X for its future long-haul fleet. The launch of the 777X family is targeted for later this year and entry into service around the end of the decade.
Boeing predicts boom in Asia Pacific aviation
Boeing projects the Asia Pacific region will continue to lead the globe in demand for hundreds of thousands of new commercial airline pilots and maintenance technicians to support expanding demand for new airplane deliveries over the next two decades. The 2013 Boeing Pilot & Technician Outlook, a bellwether industry forecast of aviation personnel demand, calls for 192,300 new commercial airline pilots and 215,300 new technicians in the Asia Pacific region through 2032.
Boeing looks to China for growth
Boeing is projecting a demand for 5,580 new airplanes in China over the next 20 years valued at $780 billion. The company’s annual China Current Market Outlook forecasts the country’s fleet to triple in size over the next two decades.
FedEx Express receives first 767-300 Freighter from Boeing
Boeing has delivered the first 767-300 Freighter to shipping company FedEx Express. The delivery supports the FedEx strategy to modernise its fleet with more efficient freighters. “Today’s delivery of our first Boeing 767 Freighter is another step forward in our fleet modernisation strategy,” said James Parker, executive vice president of air operations, FedEx Express.

Boeing has forecast the commercial aviation industry will need more than one million new pilots and technicians to support the expanding demand for new airplane deliveries over the next two decades. Projected pilot demand is increasing worldwide, as is demand for technicians in some regions.
Iraqi Airways takes first steps toward modernisation with Boeing delivery
Boeing has delivered a Next-Generation 737-800 to Iraqi Airways, the first of 30 that the airline ordered in 2008, marking a milestone in its relationship with the airline. “The Next-Generation 737-800 will play a key role in helping us modernise our fleet and integrate into the regional and international commercial aviation system,” said H.E. Hadi Al Ameri, Iraq minister of transportation.
Travel Services places $300m Boeing order
Boeing and Travel Service have finalised an order for three 737 MAX 8s, valued at $301.5 million at list prices. The Czech Republic-based carrier originally announced a commitment to purchase the 737 MAX in June during the 2013 Paris Air Show.
U.S. Navy awards Boeing $1.98 billion contract
The U.S. Navy recently awarded Boeing a $1.98 billion contract for 13 additional P-8A Poseidon aircraft, continuing the modernisation of U.S. maritime patrol capabilities that will ultimately involve more than 100 P-8As. The contract includes long-lead funding previously approved by the Navy.
All Nippon Airways bumps up Boeing 777-330ER order
Boeing and All Nippon Airways have announced the Japanese carrier has ordered three additional 777-300ER (extended range) airplanes. The order, valued at approximately $945 million at current list prices, will increase the total number of 777s in ANA’s fleet to 57 airplanes once delivered.
Boeing issues inspection order following Heathrow fire
Boeing has called on airlines around the world to carry out fresh inspections on airplanes following a fire on a 787 Dreamliner jet parked at Heathrow airport earlier this month. The airline manufacturer asked carries to look at a transmitter used to locate aircraft after a crash – the Emergency Locator Transmitter.
