Turkish Airlines has reached a new milestone with the delivery of the airline’s 125th airplane from Boeing – a Next-Generation 737-900ER – and one of 12 airplanes the Turkish flag-carrier will take delivery of this year. Boeing and Turkish Airlines’ relationship stretches back to 1968 when the airline first purchased one McDonnell Douglas DC-9.

Boeing, the Lufthansa Group and Swiss International Air Lines have finalised an order for three additional 777-300ER (Extended Range) airplanes, valued at $990 million at current list prices. This order, previously attributed to an unidentified customer, follows SWISS’ 2013 order for six 777-300ERs, and will form the backbone of the Swiss flag-carrier’s long-haul fleet renewal.

Boeing and Cathay Pacific Airways have celebrated the delivery of the airline’s 50th 777-300ER. With this delivery, Cathay Pacific will have 67 777s in operation, which also includes 12 777-300s and five 777-200s. Cathay Pacific is slated to receive three more 777-300ERs this year and is one of the launch customers for the 777X with 21 777-9X airplanes on order.

Boeing, Hainan Airlines and Sinopec have celebrated China’s first passenger flight with sustainable aviation biofuel, a key environmental milestone for China’s commercial aviation industry. The regularly scheduled Hainan Airlines flight – which carried more than 100 passengers from Shanghai to Beijing in a Next-Generation 737-800 – used biofuel made by Sinopec from waste cooking oil collected from restaurants in China.

Qantas’ first Boeing 747-400, celebrated for having flown the longest commercial flight in history from London to Sydney, made its shortest and final journey earlier from Sydney to Illawarra Regional Airport in New South Wales. After less than 15 minutes in flight, Qantas’ B747 touched down at 07:47 and was delivered to its new home with the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society where it will become the only B747-400 in the world to be put on public display.

Boeing and Thai Airways have celebrated the Thai flag-carrier’s 75th direct delivery of a Boeing airplane. Marking the milestone delivery, Boeing and Thai collaborated to transport 1,000 wool blankets onboard THAI’s newly delivered 777-300ER (Extended Range). The blankets, donated by Another Joy Foundation, will be distributed by the airline to people in need in Thailand during the colder winter months.

Boeing and Kuwait Airways have finalised an order for ten 777-300ERs (Extended Range), valued at $3.3 billion at list prices. The order underlines the popularity of the 777-300ER as the preferred long-haul aircraft of many of the world’s leading airlines including those from the Middle East. The airline originally announced its intent to order the 777-300ER in November.
