American Airlines launches new Auckland flights from Los Angeles

American Airlines customers can now customers enjoy a new service to Auckland, when the world’s largest airline introduces its daily service from Los Angeles International Airport. For passengers travelling from, or connecting via London Heathrow Airport, the new route offers a gateway from London to New Zealand, building on American’s growing trans-pacific network.

From November, Britons will be able to fly return to Belize City without an overnight connection in the US or Mexico, making this Central American destination more accessible for the first time. American Airlines has appointed Thomas Scruby as commercial director of Hong Kong and offline markets (Macau, Taiwan, Southern China and South East Asia). Based in Hong Kong, Scruby will oversee all sales and commercial activities for American Airlines across these markets. He joins American from oneworld partner LATAM Airlines Group where he served as Asia commercial director, overseeing the development of commercial strategy for Hong Kong and pan-Asia markets.

American Airlines has submitted an application to the United States department of transportation for daily service between Los Angeles International Airport and Beijing Capital International Airport. “This new route would solidify Los Angeles as American’s West Coast gateway to Asia and it would be our only Beijing access from the western United States, creating new connections to one of Asia’s major business and leisure destinations,” said Andrew Nocella, chief marketing officer for American Airlines.

United Airlines has submitted its formal application to the US department of transportation for authority to provide service from four of its largest US gateway cities – Newark/New York, Houston, Washington, D.C. and Chicago – to Havana’s José Martí International Airport. An American Airlines pilot has died on-board an overnight flight from Phoenix to Boston in the United States. The pilot suffered a medical emergency during the flight, the airline has confirmed. The flight - AA 550 – landed safely when the co-pilot took the control of the aircraft and diverted to Syracuse, New York.

Delta Air Lines has said it will ban shipment of all lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros and buffalo trophies worldwide as freight. The news follows a similar announcement from American Airlines earlier. Both airlines acted to ban the shipment of big-game trophies on flights after the illegal killing of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe.
