TAT welcomes AirAsia’s inaugural flight from Denpasar (Bali) to Phuket

Virgin Australia Orders Eight Embraer E190-E2s
Virgin Australia has placed a firm order with Embraer for eight E190-E2 small narrowbody aircraft, as part of its fleet renewal plan. The order will see the E190-E2, the world’s most fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft with the lowest noise emissions, complement the airline’s larger narrow bodies and replace its long-serving Fokker fleet. The order will be reflected in Embraer’s Q3 backlog and deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025.

The airline has launched a new initiative dubbed ‘Returnships’, after new research showed that three quarters of over 50’s (74%) agreed that this was the perfect time for a new career and 67% have considered returning to work.
QANTAS INVESTS IN NEW NATURE-BASED CARBON CREDIT FUND
Qantas has joined Rio Tinto and BHP as foundational investors in a new fund that will develop high-integrity, nature-based carbon projects in Australia. Managed by Silva Capital – a joint venture between investment managers Roc Partners and C6 Investment Management – the Silva Carbon Origination Fund aims to raise $250 million to originate and manage high-integrity Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).
Cathay Group orders the A330neo
Hong Kong’s Cathay Group has placed a firm order with Airbus for 30 A330-900 widebody aircraft. The order follows a thorough evaluation by the airline under its mid-size widebody fleet renewal programme. The newly-ordered aircraft will enable Cathay to modernise its earlier generation A330-300 fleet and expand its operations on high capacity regional routes. The aircraft will also offer flexibility to serve longer range destinations. As with all A330neo aircraft, the fleet will be powered by the latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines.

Tabea Hasler has been named as SWISS’s new Head of Revenue Steering. Hasler, who is a Swiss national, presently serves as Head of Digital Ecosystem Steering & Innovation for the Lufthansa Group. In her new capacity she succeeds Christian Sigg, who took up his new duties as SWISS’s Head of Ground Operations in July 2024.
UK travellers one step closer to the jewels of Southeast Asia with BA and Bangkok Airways
British Airways customers now have a wider choice of Southeast Asian holiday destinations, thanks to an increase in flights from London to Bangkok, and an expanded codeshare partnership with Bangkok Airways. The airline announced earlier this year that its direct route from London Gatwick to Bangkok will return on 28 October 2024, operating three times per week to the Thai capital. As of this week, the service will increase to up to five times per week between January and March 2025.

Yesterday marked Singapore National Day and Etihad Airways was delighted to announce it will start flying its A380 double-decker to Singapore (SIN) from 1 February, 2025. The Asian-Pacific powerhouse becomes the fourth major city to enjoy the Etihad A380 experience in addition to London and New York, as well as Paris which will be served by the A380 from 1 November.
