Boeing and Airbus do battle at Farnborough
Arch rivals Airbus and Boeing are locked in a battle for orders at this week’s Farnborough Airshow, as the airline industry lifts off again after a two-year slump. Emirates has placed a $9.1bn order for 30 Boeing 777-300ERs, whilst Airbus has also received an order for 51 A320 jets from Air Lease Corporation, worth $4.4bn.
WTO brands Airbus subsidy illegal
The World Trade Organisation has ruled subsidies from European governments to airplane manufacturer Airbus are illegal. The decision – the latest twist in a six year courtroom saga – was made public earlier and declares European launch aid subsidies used by Airbus to develop its commercial airplanes must end.

Airbus wins commitments worth USD 5.3 billion at Dubai Air Show
During the 2009 Dubai Air Show, Airbus announced commitments across its broad product range covering a total of 33 aircraft, valued at over US$5.3 billion. These commitments include firm orders for 15 aircraft worth more than US$3.6 billion, plus memorandum of understanding (MoU) agreements for a further 18 aircraft totalling around $1.7 billion.
