Dubai-based Emirates Airline has signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire up to 36 additional A380 aircraft. The agreement was signed this morning at the airline’s headquarters in Dubai by Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chief executive, Emirates Airline, and John Leahy, chief operating officer, customers, Airbus Commercial Aircraft.

Airbus has been selected by Singapore Airlines to provide cabin retrofit services for 14 A380 aircraft currently in service with the carrier. The retrofit programme, which will be undertaken at SIA Engineering Company in Singapore, will see the airline’s recently launched cabin products installed on the aircraft.

Qantas has reached an agreement with Airbus to upgrade its 12 flagship A380 cabins to further improve passenger comfort on long-haul operations while maximising economics. Etihad Airways has taken delivery of its tenth and final Airbus A380. Employees from Etihad Airways and Airbus gathered at the European plane-maker’s Hamburg Finkenwerder plant in Germany, where the aircraft was officially handed over to the UAE national airline before commencing its delivery flight to Abu Dhabi.

Emirates will provide an all-A380 service from Melbourne when it upgrades its third daily flight from the Australian city, EK408 and EK409, from a Boeing 777-300ER to an A380 operation. The move will add 945 seats per week to the Australian city from March 2018, representing a ten per cent increase in capacity.

Etihad Airways has announced all 14 weekly flights on the popular Abu Dhabi-Sydney route will be operated with its flagship A380 aircraft, effective October 29th. The current daily A380 Sydney flights will be joined by a second daily superjumbo service, upgraded from a 328-seat Boeing 777-300ER.
