Astana EXPO 2017 has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Air Astana, Kazakhstan’s flag carrier, to become a partner in the exhibition. Under the deal the airline will hold the exclusive status of Official Air Carrier of EXPO 2017. The official signing ceremony was held in Astana earlier, with the signatories being Astana EXPO 2017 chairman, Akhmetzhan Yesimov, and Air Astana president, Peter Foster.
Air Astana increased its operating profit by 115 per cent to $23.9 million in the first half of 2015. Net profit was $8.3 million, versus a loss of $36.4 million in the first half of 2014 – largely the result of a book loss following a local currency devaluation. At the same time passenger numbers increased by four per cent to 1.82 million.
Air Astana, the Kazakh flag carrier, has signed a deal for seven Airbus A320neo family aircraft, comprising two A320neo, one A321neo and four A321neo Long range. The new aircraft will be acquired on operating leases basis from Air Lease Corporation of Los Angeles, USA.

Based at Air Astana’s London office, he reports directly to Michael Whitehead, regional general manager for the UK, Ireland, Americas, Turkey, and MEA.
Air Astana, Kazakhstan’s winning flag-carrier, has bolstered its presence in the Middle East with the recent inauguration of direct daily flights to Almaty International Airport from Dubai International Airport. The route is served by Airbus A320 aircraft in a two class layout – 16 business class and 132 economy seats with lead in economy class. Almaty is complemented by Air Astana’s four times weekly services from the capital Astana to Abu Dhabi which have been operating since 2010.
Air Astana’s introduction of three-times weekly direct services from London Heathrow to Astana has provided a brand new link between the capital cities of the UK and Kazakhstan, significantly strengthening the relationship between the two countries. These first direct links from London - to a capital city growing in political and economic importance, and recognised by UK prime minister David Cameron on his visit to Kazakhstan at the end of last year - reflects a shift of prominence, as Kazakhstan’s flag carrier marked its 12th anniversary in May this year.
Air Astana and Turkish Airlines have completed the first step towards a wide-ranging co-operation, including a codeshare agreement on routes operated by both carriers between Kazakhstan and Turkey. The Letter of Intent was signed at an event in Istanbul by Peter Foster, President of Air Astana, and Temel Kotil, PhD, President and CEO of Turkish Airlines.
On 15 May 2002 a Boeing 737 displaying the Air Astana logo completed the first flight from Almaty to Astana. It was the first aircraft of its kind in the republic. This was the birthdate of the new national airline of Kazakhstan even though the decree on the establishment of JSC Air Astana had been signed on 29 August 2001 and the agreement with British BAE Systems PLC was made on 2 September 2001. Following the flight to Astana there were flights to Dubai, Moscow and Beijing.
Boeing and Air Astana have announced an order for four 767-300ERs (Extended Range) and three 787-8s. The order is valued at $1.3 billion at current list prices, making this the largest single order for commercial airplanes in Kazakhstan’s history.
Etihad Airways has signed a new codeshare agreement with Air Astana, the national carrier of Kazakhstan. The agreement is the 30th such commercial partnership for the World Travel Awards winner as it continues to build its global network.
