Trenitalia to offer train tickets through Sabre Travel Network

Sabre Travel Network and Trenitalia, the Italian national rail carrier, have reached an agreement to make its rail fares available to travel agents across the globe.

The long-term deal means Sabre-connected agents will soon be able to offer customers seats on Trenitalia’s Frecciarossa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca services alongside air fares, car hire and hotel rooms.

Trenitalia will use Sabre Rail Connect technology so that its fares, denoted by the code 7T, appear in search results alongside air fares in the Sabre Air display.

Gianfranco Battisti, managing director international and domestic distribution at Trenitalia, says the relationship is an important step in the company’s quest to grow into new global markets.

“Selling our fares through Sabre broadens our overall distribution strategy and is crucial step towards meeting our ambitious global growth targets,” he explained.

“While we will always retain focus on our home market in Italy, the relationship with Sabre provides us with invaluable access to points of sale around the world, and markets we have identified as having huge potential for growth, such as the Americas, central Europe and Asia.”

The deal means more than 350,000 travel agents connected to the Sabre global distribution system (GDS) will have access to Trenitalia’s seats and fare classes.
