Thick of it: Fog forces airlines to cancel flights in UK
A curtain of thick fog across the south-east of England has forced a number of flight cancellations at airports across the region.
Airports affected include London Heathrow Airport and London City Airport.
A total of 40 flights had been cancelled by 09:00 at Heathrow, with officials urging passengers to check with their airlines.
At London City Airport, 20 departing flights were cancelled while almost 40 arrivals were either cancelled, delayed or diverted.
Further delays are expected this morning as the fog lingers.
The Met Office warned visibility was lower than 50 metres in places with fog expected to linger throughout the morning.
Flights were also unable to land at Southampton Airport earlier and on Tuesday night four aircraft had to be diverted to Bournemouth.
Gatwick has been unaffected by fog so far this morning.
