The Honourable Edmund Bartlett, OJ, CD, MP, OM (Society of Numbers, Spain, 2010), LLD (Honoris Causa), Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism and longest-serving Government Minister, has been nominated for the prestigious PYNE Tourism ICON Award 2026. The award will be presented at The Pyne Awards Africa in Maputo, Mozambique.

The nomination recognizes Mr. Bartlett’s lifetime contribution to global tourism, resilience building, and Africa-Caribbean engagement.

In 2026, Mr. Bartlett was also named to the MIPAD 100 – Most Influential People of African Descent (Global), with recognition to take place during UNGA week in New York.

His international honors include the Gusi Peace Prize from the Philippines, the PATWA International Travel Award for Excellence in Governance presented at ITB Berlin, and the Royal Order of Civil Merit (OM) conferred by His Majesty King Juan Carlos of Spain in 2010.

As Founder and Chairman of the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre (GTRCMC) — the world’s first, with satellite centres in 6 countries — and as initiator of the UN-designated World Tourism Resilience Day observed each February 17, Mr. Bartlett has placed Jamaica at the forefront of sustainable and crisis-resilient tourism.

With 41 years in Parliament, 23 years in Cabinet, and 47 consecutive years of providing scholarships and educational support to Jamaican students, Mr. Bartlett’s service is guided by the principle: “The surest way to secure the future is to educate the children.”
