Taiwan plans 37 new hotel developments

Following a record number of visitors during 2009, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau has approved 37 new hotel investment projects on the island. The building of these new facilities, including large international tourist hotels, business properties and boutique hotels, will increase the number of guestrooms in Taiwan by more than 10,000.

Recent visitor figures show that a record 4.4 million people traveled to Taiwan in 2009. These figures include a total of 44,815 visitors from the UK, many of whom cited ‘pleasure’ as their reason for visiting. These impressive arrival figures come at a time when Taiwan is spending a record amount on advertising and promotion in the UK and other key destinations.

Josephine Huang, marketing manager of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau (Europe), commented:

“We are delighted that more and more people are recognising Taiwan as a fantastic leisure destination. We look forward to developing our tourism market even further and to welcoming even more travellers to our beautiful island.”
