Star names set for Thailand Golf Championship

Masters Tournament champion Charl Schwartzel, Spanish standout Sergio Garcia, and PGA Tour winner Charley Hoffman of the United States are among the star names set for the inaugural Thailand Golf Championship, organisers have confirmed.

The will join a world-class field that already includes 2011 major winners Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke along with world number three Lee Westwood at the event from December 15th-18th.

The US$1 million season-ending Asian Tour tournament will be held at Amata Spring Country Club.

The property is rated as one of the finest in Asia and has been unaffected by the floods sweeping Thailand in recent months.

As such it is in perfect condition to welcome many of the best golfers from around the world.

Asian Tour executive chairman Kyi Hla Han said: “I am confident the inaugural Thailand Golf Championship will help bring about fresh hope for the people of Thailand and it is wonderful to see the players contributing various items towards the auction.

“With a world-class line-up of stars heading to Amata Spring, we expect to see big crowds at the tournament which will be great as the proceeds from ticket sales will also go towards flood relief.”

The event will be broadcast live over the four days on the Asian Tour’s global television platform and also on Golf Channel-True Visions in Thailand.
