Southern Railway observes vigilance awareness week
The week commenced by the administration of “Vigilance Pledge” emphasizing the need for “Participative Vigilance” through involvement of the stakeholders through system improvement.The focus would be to lay down transparent policies for good governance in all areas of public administration and monitor their implementation.The campaign also aims at disseminating information about avenues available to the users/citizens for redressal of their grievances.At Southern Railway Headquarters Office, the pledge was administered by the General Manager, Southern Railway, Shri Deepak Krishan.Similar pledges were taken at all the six Divisional Headquarters and important stations on Southern Railway. As part of the Awareness Week a Seminar was organized at Southern Railway Headquarters.Smt. Vijayalakshmi Viswanathan, Retd. Financial Commissioner, Railway Board was the Chief Guest in the Seminar.Shri Deepak Krishan, GM along with other Head of the Departments attended the Seminar.
Shri Deepak Krishan, GM in his address stressed on participative vigilance to curb corruption.
Smt. Vijayalakshmi Viswanathan, Retd. Financial Commissioner, Railway Board stressed the importance of observing vigilance in all spheres of work.She also added that :
The Head of the Departments should make available in their websites different interactive works undertaken in their departments.
To curb fraudulent activities in PRS and UTS centres in the wake of computerisation, officers should have frequent inspection and tighten up with follow-up.

Personnel Branch should have Personnel Information Management System.Advance action to be taken to fill up vacancies on retirement.
There should be a good system of procurement.E-procurement system should be improved further.We should move towards computerization and e-procurement should be transparent. There should be an interactive forum with suppliers. In addition, various activities like Seminars, essay competitions, Workshops, detabes, etc. are being organized at all divisions of Southern Railway, Zonal Training Schools/Central Training Institutes, etc. on topics related to Vigilance/Corruption.
