Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay Opens, Highlighting Morocco’s Lesser-Known Mediterranean Coast

The Royal Mansour Collection is delighted to announce the opening of its third property Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay on Morocco’s lesser-known Mediterranean coast, not far from Tangier and very close to Tetouan, renowned for its UNESCO World Heritage Site medina that reflects the Moorish and Andalusian influences unique to this part of the country.

A seaside palace

Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay sits on its own expansive beach, lapped by the turquoise water of the Mediterranean. The hotel’s 55 suites and villas have been built in sand-coloured villas that blend effortlessly into the surrounding landscape; all offer panoramic views of the sea, the property’s lush gardens and the Rif mountains. Every villa comes with its own dedicated butler ensuring the very highest level of Moroccan hospitality, an element that is deeply rooted in the DNA of the Royal Mansour Collection. Privilege Seafront Villas also have their own swimming pool, separated from the beach by a small dune for privacy.

As in all Royal Mansour Collection properties, the resort’s architecture elegantly combines contemporary style and Moroccan tradition. Weaving, zellige tiles, marble mosaics, parquet flooring and inlaid ceilings have been created by the finest craftsmen using the most authentic materials to produce stunning interiors that reflect local design as well as the coastal setting.

A gastronomic paradise

Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay boasts three Michelin-starred chefs across four restaurants.

At Coccinella, Massimiliano Alajmo and his brother Raffaele serve quintessential Italian cuisine from a traditional trattoria, such as fresh homemade pasta, wood-fired pizzas and some of their speciality dishes. At La Table, Éric Frechon cooks the very best French fusion cooking, incorporating Japanese nuances and a few spicy notes that pay homage to Morocco. At Le Méditerranée, the seafood-loving Quique Dacosta, Spain’s most famous chef, transforms his country’s specialities, such as rice cooked in paella, into sublime dishes. Dacosta is also in charge of the Pool Beach, where he has created – exclusively for Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay – spectacular ‘Palmas’, sumptuous bento boxes inspired by flavours from around the world. The Pool Beach will also be serving Dacosta’s haute couture version of firm favourites, such as sandwiches, tortillas, ice-creams, waffles and many more, for casual mid-day dining.

The Alboran Club is the beating heart of the Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay: a bar, a boutique and lounge area where guests can relax at any time of day or night, savouring a morning espresso on the terrace, having afternoon tea in the cosy library (while reading or playing board games) or enjoying a signature cocktail as live music plays against the backdrop of the setting sun.

A family seaside destination

The fabulous Lila Beach Kids’ Club organises a wide range of land- and water-based activities, so that parents and children can relax, have fun and enjoy themselves, while forging everlasting holiday memories.

Welcoming children between the ages of four and 12 years, the professional team of child carers lead classes in Arabic culture (calligraphy, music, cooking and more), as well as overseeing pizza-making and mocktails. Budding botanists and entomologists can explore the extensive gardens, while games and water-based activities, such as boat rides and inflatables suitable for all ages, are on offer at the beach.

There is even a dedicated kids’ dining-room, complete with scaled down furniture and a child-friendly menu.

A destination spa & wellness centre

The Spa, with its emerald marble pools, overlooks the sea and will provide a cocooning wellness experience in which guests can regain their inner balance through a journey of personalised treatments that combine traditional rituals and the latest technology, including cosmetic treatments, when it opens in December 2024. Beauty and body treatments are already available, alongside hairdressing services and a very well-equipped gym with Pilates studio.

Outstanding resort activities

Sports enthusiasts are spoilt for choice at Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay, with countless water activities on offer, such as paddle boards, water bikes, kayaks, foil surfing, wake surfing, water skiing and wakeboarding for on the water, and Seabobs providing an exhilarating way to explore the seabed.

For those who prefer a more genteel sea experience, the Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay has two luxury Riva boats available to guests for unforgettable sea outings: feel the wind in your hair as the Riva speeds along the coastline, before the crew drops anchor for a spot of lunch.

Exciting expeditions

Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay is really hoping to shine a light on this part of country, sometimes called “Andalusian Morocco”, which is still relatively unknown outside Morocco.

The hotel has hired the best guides with expert knowledge of the region’s history and culture to accompany guests as they discover Tetouan, Chefchaouen and Tangier.

Tetouan is just a 20-minute drive from the resort and has one of the Kingdom’s best-preserved Medinas, as well as the El Ensanche quarter, built in the early 20th century in the Spanish colonial style that is reminiscent of the most beautiful Andalusian cities.

A 90-minute drive away, set on the mountainside, is the city of Chefchaouen, renowned for the countless shades of blue of its Medina and its remarkably rich history, as well as skilful artisans making it a shopper’s paradise.

Inland, guests can explore the majestic landscapes of the Rif, a mountainous arc that runs through northern Morocco, offering endless opportunities for hiking and discovering local crafts such as age-old pottery, roasted olive oil pressing and beautiful hats handmade by local women.

And finally, the mythical Tangier at the very tip of Africa is also a 90-minute drive from the hotel. With its thousand-year history, cosmopolitan vibe and light that captivated the likes of Matisse and Delacroix, this city continues to enchant its visitors.
