Passengers injured as Brilliance is rocked by storms
As many as 30 passengers have reportedly been hurt as the Brilliance of the Seas cruise ship was hit by storms.
The vessel – operated by Royal Caribbean – was making her way to the port of Alexandria in Egypt when strong winds caused the ship to list heavily several times.
Minor injuries were reported among the 2,110 passengers, with damage to public areas of the vessel also recorded.
Fitness equipment in the gym, tables in the casino, and displays in the shops were all disrupted, while the Christmas tree in the ship’s Centrum was also toppled.
Brilliance of the Seas was undertaking a 12-night cruise from Barcelona.
The port of Alexandria was closed due to bad weather, with the ship diverted to Valletta in Malta.
Royal Caribbean said the ship has full power and was sailing as normal.
A spokesman for Royal Caribbean Cruises added: “All power and toilets are working normally; no one has been seriously injured.”
