Nine killed in Spain floods

At least nine people have died and hundreds have been evacuated from their homes in southern Spain after heavy rains triggered flash floods, according to reports.

Children are among those killed as torrential rain flooded streets and homes causing chaos.

The provinces of Malaga and Almeria, and the Murcia region have been especially badly affected.

At least 600 people had to be evacuated from their homes in Andalucia region officials have said.

A flight was diverted to Seville as it headed to Malaga according to the airports authority said.

Meanwhile there are no travel restrictions in place but the FCO has advised residents to be alert.

“There has been heavy rainfall in the Andalucia region (southern Spain). Some schools have been closed as a safety precaution.

“We advise local residents to be alert and to take guidance from the local authorities.”
