New guide to Cornwall proves internet hit
The Guide includes an interactive map search facility that pinpoints attractions across the county. By zooming in on the map it is possible to see individual attractions, or to separate out ‘Places to Eat’; ‘Places to Visit’; ‘Shops’ and ‘Beaches’. The interactive guide also includes a ‘What’s On’ section that is updated daily, and a search bar that allows readers to pull up details on attractions across the county and create an itinerary for their stay.
Mathew Filewood, Manager Cornish Traditional Cottages, who is behind the new initiative, believes this is a natural evolution in modern vacationing. “2012 holidaymakers are used to planning ahead. They are not frightened by technology and see its benefits in their day-to-day home and work lives, so why not in their vacation time too? We are regularly asked by holidaymakers where we would recommend they eat; where to visit and what to do” he says “Nearly all of us at Cornish Traditional Cottages are born and bred Cornish or have lived here the majority of our lives. So who better then to pass on information about this breathtaking county than the people who live, work and play here?”
The itinerary element of the site allows you to work up a shortlist of favourite places, and lets users plan their holiday ahead of time, adding places of interest to their individual selection of choice. The front page of the site offers a selection of ideas as well as a list of the Top Ten searches. By keying in a town, and distance, the guide also generates an automatic selection of suggestions within a chosen vicinity.
“We’re fiercely proud of our county” continues Filewood, “and there are so many things to do here, we wanted to share our knowledge with the rest of the world, particularly as we’re seeing a noticeable increase in foreign visitors, and show off just how amazing it is. Cornwall is famous for its stunning beaches, but there is so much more. With over 1000 attractions to choose from we hope the guide will help visitors find an increasingly sophisticated array of things to do, places to visit, dining experiences and staged events to entertain all ages.”
