East Midlands Trains is continuing with its commitment to provide greener, smarter travel with the installation of fully sustainable new cycle facilities at a number of its stations.  The new Streetpods, which are made of 100% recycled material and are 100% recyclable, provide a safe and secure storage facility for cyclists. In addition to its green credentials, the advantage over the traditional cycle rack is that the Streetpod has the ability to secure the bike frame and front wheel with a single lock.

Alsager station has become the first station to benefit, with two of the Streetpods now installed on platform two, providing space to securely store four bikes.

East Midlands Trains’ Customer Service Director, David Horne said: “This is a fantastic product that will be very beneficial to our cyclists.  Not only is it 100% green, which supports our objective to provide greener travel, but the single locking facility makes it even more secure, providing maximum bike protection for our cyclists. 

“Our decision to install the new Streetpods at Alsager has been firmly supported by the North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership, and we are keen to continue working with them on the roll out to other stations along the route.”

“We’re absolutely delighted that Alsager is first on the list for this new, environmentally-friendly facility”, said Faye Lambert, Project Officer for the North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership. “I am sure it will prove really useful for local cyclists who use this form of transport to link to rail travel from Alsager station.”
